Mikel Arteta explains Martinelli substitution/Reveals latest on Aubameyang ahead of Wolves

Mikel Arteta has provided updates on both Gabriel Martinelli and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, on the back of Arsenal’s meeting with Manchester United.

Emirates stalemate

The Gunners welcomed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men to north London earlier this evening, for a highly anticipated Premier League showdown.

Arteta’s men headed into proceedings with their tails up, on the back of a fine spell of 5 league wins from 6 over recent weeks.

United, though, could of course not be underestimated, having thoroughly impressed on the road to this point in the campaign.

In turn, when all was said and done at the Emirates, it did not come as too much of a surprise to see the two sides cancel each other out, en route to a 0-0 draw.

Both, to their credit, created noteworthy openings, but, in the end, failed to produce the necessary moment of quality to net an all-important winner.

Gabi & Auba updates

Whilst Manchester United, on the one hand, will likely be left disappointed by only taking away a share of the spoils from the capital this evening, Arsenal, on the other, will feel considerably more positive about the eventual result.

This comes with the hosts having been unable to call on a number of key players, including all of Kieran Tierney, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and surprise absentee Bukayo Saka.

In turn, when word was forthcoming at half-time that Gabriel Martinelli would not be reemerging for the 2nd-half, fans of the Gunners no doubt feared the worst.

In turn, speaking in his post-match interview this evening, Mikel Arteta was inevitably asked for an update on Martinelli’s wellbeing.

The Arsenal boss, though, went on to confirm that the Brazilian’s exit from proceedings in fact did not come as a result of a fitness issue:

‘It was a tactical decision. It was something we weren’t doing right & I thought Willy could’ve done better & that’s why I made that decision.’

Elsewhere, Arteta was also drawn on Aubameyang’s situation, after the north Londoners’ captain missed out once again this evening, having recently been forced to depart the club’s camp to tend to his ill mother:

‘We have to follow the rules and the protocols right now and the protocols say he cannot be involved at the moment. He had a family issue he had to attend to and these are the consequences to that.’

When pressed on whether ‘Auba’ could return to feature at Wolves on Tuesday, Arteta added:

‘I don’t know. We are working with the Premier League and government about it. He’s been looking after his family and now he’s in quarantine.’
