Michael Gallup heaps praise on Brandin Cooks, reveals advice new Cowboys WR gave him

It may be early on in the process for new Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Brandin Cooks, but there’s been no shortage of praise from his fellow wide receivers and teammates to this point. Cooks, who was acquired via trade from the Houston Texans this offseason, has fit right in it seems, and the most recent proof of that comes from a rave review handed out by fellow wideout Michael Gallup.

Gallup offered some early praise of the 29-year-old wide receiver and pointed to his overarching desire to win while also calling Cooks a “great addition,” via The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

“We love him in there,” Gallup said. “I ain’t going to lie to you. He has been in there every day, working, just trying to win. That’s all he wants to do is just win, and he wants to do it as a group. He’s a great addition.”

Cooks has put together an impressive nine-year career so far, which has included stops with the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, Houston Texans, and now the Dallas Cowboys. During his most recent stretch with the Texans, he tallied 228 receptions for 2,886 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Michael Gallup reveals Brandin Cooks’ advice

It seems Cooks has had no problem taking some of the younger receivers under his wing a bit, including the aforementioned Gallup. When asked about Cooks, Gallup also detailed the advice his new teammate had offered, specifically focusing on keeping your body right as an NFL player, per Machota and The Athletic.

“Getting your body right,” Gallup said, “that’s all he keeps preaching. He talks to everybody, ‘When you are done with this or you’re done with that, make sure you stretch. Make sure you do what you’re supposed to do so you can stay in the league as long as you possibly can.’ That’s one of the biggest things right now. Football, that’s going to be there. We got in the league for a reason. But he’s over here talking about how you stay in the league. That’s the knowledge he’s bringing.”

Cooks has the chance to make a big impact for the Cowboys both on and off the field, as his mentorship for Gallup and rising star CeeDee Lamb could be a major benefit for the young duo. As far as on the field goes, Cooks gives the Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott another weapon for the arsenal, and the new pass-catcher has shown an impressive ability to stretch the field and make big plays throughout his career.

Don’t be surprised to see Cooks become a top target for Prescott, likely just behind Lamb, who’s coming off a career year. The Cowboys’ offseason need at wide receiver may prove to be a legitimate steal, as they acquired Cooks for a 2023 fifth-round draft pick and 2024 sixth-round pick.
