Michael Carrick confirms surprise decision on Man United future after Arsenal triumph
Manchester United caretaker manager Michael Carrick has, on Thursday evening, confirmed his surprise decision to depart the club.
Ronaldo at the double
Carrick of course led his troops back into action a short time ago.
After overseeing a Champions League downing of Villarreal, followed by a commendable point against table-topping Chelsea last time out, the caretaker Red Devils boss welcomed Arsenal to Old Trafford, no doubt desperate to maintain his fine record in the dugout ahead of Ralf Rangnick’s imminent arrival.
And, when all was said and done, this is precisely what Carrick managed.
An end-to-end affair, during which Arsenal, in truth, could easily have secured a share of the spoils, ultimately played out into a 3-2 Manchester United victory.
Cristiano Ronaldo proved the star of the show, netting a brace (including his 800th career goal) to add to Bruno Fernandes’ first club goal since September late in the first-half.
COOL. CALM. CRISTIANO.

‘My decision’
As alluded to above, however, the Red Devils’ celebrations on Thursday evening have since been left with an altogether bittersweet taste.
This comes with the club having confirmed a short time ago that, ahead of the aforementioned Rangnick’s instillation on the bench at Old Trafford, Michael Carrick has come to the decision to part ways with Manchester United.
A player.
A coach.
A manager. But above all else, a genuine Manchester United legend.
Thank you, Michael ❤️#MUFC

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle sounding a short time ago, Carrick provided an insight into his decision to move onto a potential new chapter in his career, explaining:
‘100% my decision. I respect a new manager coming in. I made the decision before speaking to him. It wasn’t an easy one but right decision for the club.’
