Mavericks To Waive J.J. Barea, Sign Courtney Lee

The Dallas Mavericks have waived J.J. Barea and plan to sign Courtney Lee to a camp deal.

Barea still hopes to play in the NBA this season. The Mavericks anticipated waiving Barea before the start of the season, but Mark Cuban wanted to reward him with a $2.6 million contract with his contributions to the franchise over the years. Barea has performed well during training camp, but the Mavericks are committed to giving reserve point guard minutes to Jalen Brunson and Trey Burke.

Lee sat out the restart due to a calf injury when he was on an expiring contract with the Mavericks.
