Martin Odegaard admits Arsenal feel like the title is ‘GONE’ after shock 3-0 defeat against Brighton

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has admitted it ‘feels like there is no hope’ that Arsenal can win the Premier League after the Gunners lost 3-0 to Brighton on Sunday.

Man City’s own 3-0 win over Everton earlier on in the day left the reigning champions two wins away from lifting their third title in a row, but that soon became one when Mikel Arteta’s side collapsed at home.

The chasers struggled as Julio Enciso gave an impressive Brighton side the lead at the start of the second half, before Denis Undav secured the win and Pervis Estupinan put the icing on the cake late on.

Arsenal had led for the majority of the season, but they have dropped points regularly recently and must now win both games remaining and hope City drop points to stand any hope of lifting their first title since 2004.

Their captain, Martin Odegaard, speaking to Sky Sports, admitted his team-mates are incredibly deflated after their title charge all but came to an end.

‘It feels like that I think it’s going to be very difficult to be honest,’ he said. ‘It’s a tough one to take.

‘It’s not a good feeling at the moment, especially the way we played in the second half. But yeah I don’t know, I don’t know what happened to be honest, but it’s a big, big disappointment and yes it feels like no hope now.’

The midfielder reiterated his point that he was unsure what went wrong on the day, as the Emirates found itself almost empty at full time with fans flooding out before the final whistle.

Arsenal went into the game on the back of an impressive 2-0 win away to Champions League chasing Newcastle, but put up a tame fight as Brighton ran riot on Sunday.

‘In the first half we did a lot of good things and had moments where we can create some big chances maybe score a goal or two and in the second half we gave them more and more momentum,’ Odegaard said.

‘They’re dangerous when they go direct there, especially on our right side there. They attacked us a little to easily in behind at times. Its hard to say at the moment but there were a lot of things we could have done better.

The title can now be decided before City kick a ball again with Arsenal playing Nottingham Forest next week

‘We wanted to come here and continue as we have done in the last few games and get another good result and keep pushing. That was the target and that’s what we wanted to do but I don’t have any good answers at the moment to tell you what happened but a big disappointment.

‘I felt like we were good going into the game but in the game it was a different story and we have to accept that and learn from it and that’s all now.’

City can win the title before they kick a ball again, with Arsenal needing to pick up maxiumum points at Nottingham Forest next weekend to keep their faint hopes alive.

City though can then secure the championship themselves no matter the result in Nottingham when they face Chelsea on Monday night.
