Marcus Morris says he’s the best LeBron James defender outside of Kawhi Leonard

The Eastern Conference finals is the place to put it to the test.

Statistically speaking, there is nothing to state that Marcus Morris is better fit to cover LeBron James than any other power forward. Kawhi Leonard has certainly been a formidable foe to the James, who is attempting to make the Finals for an eighth straight season. But in the sport of basketball, putting a thought into the universe — true or not — might just help to bring it to fruition.

“Personally, I think probably the best guy defending him in the league, outside of Kawhi.”

Although Morris only played against LeBron in two of the Cavs/Celtics meetings this season, he had the confidence to make the statement.

And apparently it worked as James was limited to 15 points in the Game 1 blowout at the TD Garden. The four-time MVP sat most of the fourth quarter out after a 7-point first half and an 8-point 3rd quarter. At the opposite end of the court, Morris finished his minutes with a double-double scoring 21 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

Whether Morris’ claim to lock down the King will hold water has yet to be determined. Game 2 takes place Tuesday night at 7:30 on ESPN.
