Manchester United captain Maguire is doubt for derby clash after ‘rolling his ankle in training’

Harry Maguire is doubtful for Sunday’s Manchester derby after missing Manchester United‘s FA Cup tie at Derby with an ankle injury.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed before Thursday’s 3-0 win that the United skipper had not been risked after picking up the knock in training.

‘I had a word with him before training yesterday that I am not going to rest him,’ he told MUTV.

‘But then he rolled his ankle in training so he had to stay at home. Hopefully he will be okay for the weekend, but I am not sure.’

Maguire tweeted: ‘Disappointed to miss out through injury – Working hard to get fit ASAP. Good luck to the lads.’

United extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to nine games ahead of Sunday’s derby visit of Manchester City and remain in the hunt for the FA Cup, Europa League and a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Odion Ighalo struck twice to help Solskjaer’s side reach the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Luke Shaw’s second career goal complemented January signing Ighalo’s brace in a comfortable 3-0 win.

A trip to Norwich – and sixth successive FA Cup quarter-final appearance – is the reward, having ridden an early storm as Louie Sibley fizzed wide before Sergio Romero stopped Wayne Rooney’s free-kick against the club he scored 253 goals for.
