Manchester City ‘offered the chance to sign David Alaba’ in a swap deal with Leroy Sane by Bayern

Manchester City were offered the chance to sign David Alaba as part of a swap deal with Bayern Munich for Leroy Sane, according to reports.

The City winger has been on the sidelines for most of this season after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament in the Community Shield, but was nearing a comeback before the coronavirus crisis.

Bayern have been keen on signing him for an extended period and are expected to try and capture him again in the summer.

Now, according to German newspaper Bild, Alaba’s new agent Pini Zahavi has suggested including the defender in any deal for Sane.

Both Sane and Alaba’s contracts run out in the summer of 2021, which means both are in the same boat come the summer.

The deal, which was proposed to City, was being considered by both parties. Pep Guardiola managed Alaba while he was with Bayern.

But the report also states that in the end, neither Alaba or Zahavi wanted the deal to go through.

The 27-year-old is keen to move to Spain if he does not end up extending his contract with Bayern.

He is eyeing a switch to the likes of giants Real Madrid and Barcelona and is not particularly interested in a move to England.

As a result, a swap deal involving Sane and the Austrian international is unlikely to take place.
