Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson won’t change his game despite costing his side a goal in Thursday’s frenetic 4-2 win against Tottenham.

Ederson, rated as the best keeper in the league with his feet, underhit a pass to Rodri to let Spurs take the lead at the Etihad, although the champions fought back to win.

It was the latest example of extreme risk-taking from the Brazilian who has also surrendered goals in the Manchester derby with poor distribution.

However, he’s in no mood to alter his adventurous style.

‘Football, in the way I play, the team plays, we can make mistakes. We need to be prepared for all circumstances,’ he said.

‘Against Tottenham my mistake ended up in a goal but I won’t change my way of playing, always calm, searching for the best solution. It’s not the first time or the last that I made a mistake, and I’ll keep doing the same things. Yes, it’s one of the build-ups we have, with me playing as a third defender.

‘It makes the distance bigger from the opponent who is trying to put pressure on me, so I can have more time for the first touch and take the best decision.’

Ederson can show the doubters his medals if he faces criticism. He has been one of the key performers in City’s four Premier League titles in the last five seasons under Pep Guardiola.

This season is proving one of his toughest challenges with City five points behind Arsenal at the halfway stage. But Ederson said: ‘We’ve been in similar situations before. If I’m not mistaken, two years ago the opponent was eight points ahead and we came back.’
