Manchester City deliver a Christmas present to EVERY fostered child in the city

Manchester City have delivered a Christmas present to every fostered child across the city and donated 500 three-course meals to local families.

The initiative, which also saw every primary school pupil in east Manchester receive a gift from the club, was in recognition of the challenges facing the region this winter.

Research suggested that one in three children in the city will not having a Christmas present to open this year after the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sergio Aguero attended schools to spread cheer, with City’s community work delivering 5,500 gifts over the festive period.

They also passed on 45,000 everyday essentials, including clothes and toiletries, to ten charities for distribution over the winter.

‘We all know how difficult this year has been and that for some, the festive period will be particularly challenging,’ chief executive Ferran Soriano said.

‘Our priority was to find ways to connect with those in our community who are most in need, to provide tangible support and let them know that their football club is there for them.

‘Thanks to the combined efforts of our coaches, staff, our players and our charity, City in the Community, we have been able to make a difference and share some City magic.’

Christmas hospital visits, where first-team stars spend time with patients, are unable to go ahead this year, with Aguero among those chatting on video calls to four medical centres. 

Pep Guardiola’s squad made their annual donation to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital for new equipment.

Head of City in the Community, Mike Green, said: ‘Manchester City has always had a strong connection with its community, and we have been proud to play our part to support local people since the start of this pandemic.

‘We knew that Christmas would feel very different this year and we were determined to find ways of giving and connecting to those in Manchester who need it most.’
