Man wounded in shootout with Guadalupe County deputies

A man wanted on felony charges was wounded in a shootout with Guadalupe County Sheriff’s deputies who were attempting to arrest him Tuesday, officials said.

Sheriff Arnold Zwicke said the incident began when deputies were attempting to arrest the 25-year-old man on a warrant for felony drug charges at about 4 p.m. in the 200 block of Weil Road.

Zwicke said three deputies were approaching a camper trailer when the man started shooting at them through the unit’s walls.

Two of the deputies fired back at the camper, the sheriff said.

The man then exited the trailer and continued exchanging fire with the deputies, Zwicke said.

He was hit an unknown number of times and taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center, deputies said. It was unclear how badly he was wounded.

The deputies were not injured, Zwicke said.

Zwicke said the deputies are now on administrative duty pending the outcome of an investigation by the Texas Rangers.
