Man United: Brendan Rodgers is ‘the favourite to replace under-fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’

Brendan Rodgers has been put forward as the favourite to take over at Manchester United, according to reports.

United are currently sixth in the Premier League after a 5-0 mauling at home by Liverpool followed by a 2-0 defeat by Manchester City, with pressure increasing on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

No managerial change appears to be imminent after the Red Devils boss seemingly survived his three-game stay of execution but Solskjaer’s job is still hanging by a thread.

A leading agent has been sounding out candidates to potentially replace Solskjaer at Old Trafford, according to The Sun.

According to the report, United bosses have drawn-up a four-man list of potential successors for the Red Devils boss, featuring Rodgers, Antonio Conte, Zinedine Zidane and Erik ten Hag, with the Northern Irishman coming out on top.

Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was said to be interested but the Italian was not prepared to wait for the position to become available and jumped at the chance to take charge at Tottenham at the beginning of the month instead.

Zidane led Real Madrid to three Champions League titles in two spells at he Bernabeu but the out-of-work Frenchman has ruled out a move to Manchester after hinting that he would not be interested in the job.

Meanwhile, an approach to Ten Hag was reportedly met with a cool reception as he informed the agent he did not want to discuss any possible job vacancies at United.

The Ajax boss had also been touted as a candidate for the Newcastle job but was equally reluctant to take charge on Tyneside.

That left Rodgers as the sole remaining candidate and United have been informed that the agent is confident they could lure the former Liverpool boss to Old Trafford.

But the Foxes boss is said to have split opinion among the most influential voices at United, with some hoping Solskjaer can still salvage the Red Devils’ campaign.

Rodgers agonisingly missed out on gifting Liverpool their long-awaited Premier League title in 2014 but went on to win seven major trophies, including three league titles, with Celtic before moving to Leicester in February 2019.

The 48-year-old guided Leicester to FA Cup glory last season as well as overcoming Manchester City to lift the Community Shield at the beginning of this term.
