Man sought in fatal shooting in February arrested

A man sought in a February shooting that left a 16-year-old boy dead and two others wounded near a West Side park was arrested Wednesday.

Fabian Vega, 20, is facing multiple charges including one count of murder and two for aggravated assault, San Antonio police said.

Jesse Alviar was fatally shot at about 1:45 p.m. after a confrontation between two groups in the 1500 block of Saltillo Street, investigators said.

The males, who were in their mid- to late teens, were arguing when one of them pulled out a gun and started shooting, police said.

Alviar was hit in his left arm and chest, investigators said. He ran to Father Albert Benavides Park where he died on a basketball court, police said.

A 19-year-old man who was shot in the leg was taken to the hospital and has since recovered, police said. A third person was grazed by a bullet and treated at the scene.

Police said witnesses later identified Vega as the shooter. He was arrested at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday by the U.S. Marshal’s Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.
