Man City’s Eric Garcia taken off in neck brace after clash with goalkeeper Ederson

Manchester City defender Eric Garcia was stretchered off in the club’s first Premier League match back after a collision with goalkeeper Ederson

The Spaniard was tracking back and did not see the oncoming keeper who was also heading towards the ball. 

Ederson flew into Garcia, causing a sickening clash between the two that led to the defender coming off with a neck brace.

The match was halted for roughly 10 minutes as the young City star was being treated by several medics who were pitch-side at the Etihad Stadium. 

City players huddled around Garcia, who laid flat on the ground just outside the hosts’ penalty area.   

Following City’s 3-0 win, Guardiola said: ‘We are concerned about Eric of course.

‘He is conscious, but I think he is going to be tested tonight because a kick in the head is always so dangerous.

‘The doctor told me he was conscious and then they asked me to be with you.

‘I’m pretty sure we’re going to do absolutely everything to be sure that everything is fine and well.’
