Pep Guardiola has ruled out Manchester City signing another left back as they complete the £11million capture of Anderlecht’s Sergio Gomez.

The 21-year-old had been a target during their pursuit of Marc Cucurella but earmarked as a ‘development’ player, with City planning to loan him to sister club Girona in La Liga.

Guardiola was looking at Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro and Rayan Ait-Nouri at Wolves, but now he feels Gomez can make an impact at the Etihad this season.

Gomez was in Manchester having a medical on Friday night.

The Spain Under 21 player, a product of Barcelona’s academy, was backed by ex-Anderlecht boss Vincent Kompany.

‘He’s so young, open to learn, I spoke with Vinny about him,’ said Guardiola. ‘He was a No 10 like Oleksandr Zinchenko, now he adapts. He has to improve in some departments but he’s perfect for what he need.’

Asked if the champions are still in the market for a left back, Guardiola replied: ‘No. After Cucurella, we spent time to watch Sergio more. I said OK, this is perfect — the price, young player, desire, go for it.’

The City manager added that unless players leave before the end of the window, there will be no more additions to the squad. Barcelona remain keen on Bernardo Silva.

‘If we have a problem with Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo we have players who can replace them,’ Guardiola said.

Kalvin Phillips and Cole Palmer are likely to miss today’s game at home to Bournemouth, with Guardiola saying City are down to ‘14 players’.
