Man City ‘sign Yan Couto from Coritiba as Brazilian pens five-year deal at the club’

Manchester City have reportedly signed 17-year-old right back Yan Couto from Coritiba.

The Brazilian Under 17 World Cup winner has penned a five-year contract at the club, but won’t join the club until he turns 18 in June.

His contract was due to expire at the end of the season and despite interest from Arsenal and Barcelona, the Premier League champions have won the race for Couto, according to Sports Illustrated.

Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen were another club interested in the 17-year-old.

City stepped up their interest in the highly-rated defender in January, as rumours of a move to Europe intensified.

The teenager starred in the 2019 Under 17 World Cup successful – a tournament where he created more chances than any other defender as Brazil won the event on home soil.

Despite taking home a winners medal, Couto was actually sent off in his first appearance of the tournament against New Zealand.

He has been described in his home country as ‘the new Dani Alves‘, with comparisons made due to his lighting pace and prowess going forward.

Alves had a major role in the all-conquering Barcelona side that was managed by current City boss Pep Guardiola.
