Man City scrape past Haaland and co, but Man United’s fans just can’t get over Jude Bellingham

Manchester United’s supporters have taken to social media in their droves this evening, to react to Jude Bellingham’s showing vs Man City.

Foden strikes late

Bellingham’s Borussia Dortmund were of course back in action a short time ago.

In one of two Champions League outings on Tuesday night, Edin Terzic’s men made the trip to the Etihad, for a highly anticipated meeting with Man City.

It was the hosts who headed into proceedings as overwhelming favourites to secure a first-leg advantage, amid a remarkable campaign to date.

When all was said and done in Manchester, however, Dortmund no doubt surprised more than a few, in going toe-to-toe with the runaway Premier League leaders.

Kevin De Bruyne opened the evening’s scoring just inside 20 minutes, latching onto Riyad Mahrez’s pull back to slot a typically cool finish beyond Marwin Hitz in the Dortmund goal:

The visitors, though, quickly dusted themselves down, before only being robbed of a completely legitimate first-half equaliser by a shocking decision on the part of referee Ovidiu Hategan.

After Jude Bellingham nipped in to rob Ederson of possession, Hategan blew for a high foot, just before the Dortmund starlet had the chance to slot into an empty City net.

Subsequent replays went on to showcase the fact that the goal clearly should have stood.

Dortmund’s resilience, however, was eventually rewarded inside the evening’s closing 10 minutes.

This came when a wonderful team move involving all of Bellingham, Erling Haaland and Marco Reus saw the latter slipped in to slot past Ederson with aplomb:

City, to their credit, did go on to bag a winner at the death, when Phil Foden picked out the far corner from Ilkay Gundogan’s layoff:

But Dortmund, despite their eventual defeat, will no doubt fancy their chances of springing a surprise back in Germany next week, having notched a potentially crucial away goal.

Bellingham in the spotlight

On the back of proceedings coming to a close in Manchester, meanwhile, a whole host of players have since taken centre stage in the post-match chatter.

Erling Haaland, despite not getting on the scoresheet, produced another couple of breathtaking moments, flooring Ruben Dias in a shoulder-to-shoulder challenge, before teeing up Reus’ equaliser with a wonderful assist.

Phil Foden, on the other side, endured an altogether hit-and-miss evening, looking sublime in moments, as well as grabbing the winner, but also fluffing a number of presentable opportunities in front of goal.

Without doubt the most widely praised young talent to have taken to the Etihad pitch this evening, though, comes in the form of Jude Bellingham.

The English talent dazzled in the middle of the park, looking almost embarrassingly calm and collected on the ball, despite still being just 17.

And one fanbase who couldn’t help but curse their luck whilst taking in Bellingham’s display were those of a Manchester United persuasion.

The Red Devils were of course heavily tipped to land the midfield starlet before his eventual move to Dortmund last summer, with supporters of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men, in turn, having tonight made crystal clear their feelings regarding the opportunity missed:
