A Northwest Side Mama Margie’s is picking up the pieces after a car drove into a window of the restaurant early Wednesday morning, April 19, officials with the San Antonio Police Department said.

Early reports of the incident say an adult man crashed into the popular restaurant chain, located on 9550 IH 10 West, just before 4 a.m. Investigators were unsure if the driver of the vehicle was intoxicated at the time, but new information reveals the crash was most likely an accident.

Police say the driver was trying to pull into a space in the Mama Margie’s parking lot when the brakes on his car malfunctioned, causing the vehicle drive into a window at the front of the restaurant building.

The San Antonio Police Department, San Antonio Fire Department, and emergency medical services responded to the crash and no injuries were reported.

This is far from the first time a car has driven into a San Antonio restaurant. In 2021 a man allegedly driving at a high speed drove through a stop sign and crashed into Singhs Vietnamese, a popular restaurant on St. Mary’s Strip. The driver, who was said to be intoxicated at the time of the crash, was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
