Growth is underway as the I-10 Kendall Extension project moves into the next phase of construction on Tuesday, July 6. The move will result in several upcoming roadway and lane closures that are necessary in order to complete the new six-lane bridge at SH 46 and I-10. The project intends to increase mobility for drivers on I-10 in Kendall County.

This phase of construction is expected to take approximately 12 weeks. Read on to see all the closures you’ll need to know for your daily commute.

The first six weeks of this phase will include closures and reroutes on SH 46 from Home Depot to the eastbound I-10 Frontage Road. During this phase, two-way traffic will be maintained on the approach to and across the existing SH 46 and I-10 bridge. There will be a closure of the right-turn lane in front of Whataburger on approach to the eastbound frontage road, with traffic shifting onto temporary pavement. The Whatburger driveway will be closed.

The second six weeks of construction will bring additional closures, but more details will follow.

Once finished, this phase will allow crews to shift traffic onto the portion of the new SH46 bridge by fall 2021. Then, crews can begin demolition of the old SH 46 bridge, the next step in the extension.

The new bridge is estimated to be finished by spring 2022.
