Local restaurant owner searching for thieves who stole his food trailer in broad daylight

A local restaurant owner is searching for the thieves who used a U-Haul to steal his food trailer from his business in board daylight last week.

Jose Cerrillo, owner of Culebra Fajita Xpress, said he and his staff members were too busy to notice the drivers of a U-Haul take the bright yellow and blue food trailer at around 8 a.m. on Oct. 6. The restaurant’s surveillance camera footage showed the thieves hooked the trailer onto the U-Haul in under three minutes.

“I can’t believe it,” he said. “You can see how busy the drive-thru was in the video. It was right there. We just didn’t look at the screen.”

Cerrillo said he bought the $9,000 trailer three years ago to run it as a food truck, but ended up using it for storage instead at his restaurant located at 10531 Culebra Rd. He said the trailer had over $1,000 worth of food and products it in, as well as a refrigerator and table.

The San Antonio Police Department responded to the theft. No suspects have been reported as of Wednesday afternoon. The food trailer is also still missing, Cerrillo said.

If anyone sees the food trailer, Cerrillo is asking to contact him at 210-520-0355 or call SAPD. The family owned restaurant is also offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who helps bring the trailer back to the restaurant.

A few days before Cerrillo’s food trailer was taken, Daniel Zamarripa, who owns a local barbecue food truck named Uncle Danny’s Backyard BBQ, also reported a U-Haul stealing his snack shack at 3 a.m. on Oct. 3.

Uncle Danny’s Backyard BBQ told mySA.com via Facebook message on Tuesday that the U-Haul in Cerrillo’s surveillance camera footage looks like the one that stole its snack shack. Police have not verified if it was the same U-Haul used in both incidents.

“This is horrible,” the local establishment said. “These people are taking things from hard-working businesses. Someone has to know something.”
