Liverpool‘s Mo Salah has won this year’s PFA Premier League Fans’ Player of the Year award after a stellar season with the Reds – despite calls of a ‘robbery’ by fans on social media.

Salah marked his 2021/22 campaign with a third Premier League Golden Boot, having tied with Tottenham‘s Heung-Min Son on 23 goals – before collecting this prestigious fan-voted award.

Despite Salah’s impressive season, fans on social media were quick to suggest that Manchester City‘s Kevin de Bruyne had been ‘robbed’ of the accolade.

The Egyptian star won the award for the third time in his career – having previously claimed the title in 2018 and 2021.

Salah produced yet another world class season for Jurgen Klopp’s side with his 23 Premier League goals helping to keep their title charge alive until the final game of the season – before eventually losing out to City.

The two football stars have split opinion this year – with the Reds winger winning the FWA Footballer of the Year award and de Bruyne claiming the Premier League Player of the Season title.

The decision to give Salah the award has infuriated fans online, with many claiming that City’s star ‘was better’ this year.

One fan wrote: ‘Kevin de Bruyne deserves it more if we are being honest.’

‘De Bruyne robbed,’ another added.

Meanwhile one supporter was quick to show support for Salah’s accomplishment by claiming that PFA are ‘the only association that’s credible’.

The Belgium international had a stellar season for Pep Guardiola’s side with his 15 goals and eight assists contributing greatly to their Premier League success.

The 30-year-old midfielder was awarded the Premier League Player of the Season award this year – despite scoring significantly less goals than Liverpool’s Salah.

City retained their champion status after pipping Liverpool to the title by one point on the final game of the season.
