Jurgen Klopp sends message to Everton after Premier League survival

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was sure to reserve one moment of his latest press conference on Friday to send a message to Merseyside rivals Everton.

Frank Lampard’s Toffees, of course, took their place front and centre in the English football headlines just shy of 24 hours ago.

Amid something of a nightmare campaign, Everton welcomed welcomed Crystal Palace to Goodison Park, in the knowledge that a three-point haul would see them officially assured of the club’s top-flight status for another year.

With 45 minutes played, however, such an outcome appeared altogether unlikely, as goals on the part of Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jordan Ayew guided Patrick Vieira’s Palace into the break two goals to the good.

Queue 2nd-half chaos…

After Michael Keane’s finish shortly after the interval was followed by Richarlison levelling things up fifteen minutes from time, Dominic Calvert-Lewin turned the clash on its head late on, ensuring a 3-2 Everton win, and sparking predictably raucous celebrations across Goodison Park.

And, as alluded to above, one individual who was since quick to send a message of congratulations to the Blues was the manager of none other than their fiercest rivals.

Speaking in a press conference on Friday, Jurgen Klopp, mid-point, came to a brief stop, to simply state:

“Congratulations to Everton for staying in the league.”

Wolves up next

Turning attentions back towards his own side’s prospects, Klopp’s Liverpool will of course require something of a miracle this weekend, to keep hopes of a historic quadruple alive on the final day of the campaign.

This comes with the Reds currently trailing Premier League table-toppers Manchester City by a solitary point.

Liverpool, for their part, will welcome Wolves to Anfield in the knowledge that nothing but a victory will suffice, all the while hoping for Aston Villa to spring a shock courtesy of a win at the Etihad.
