LeSean McCoy Returns To Eagles For Retirement
LeSean McCoy became a superstar running back with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The fact he could not spend more time with the team that drafted him is a shame.
The 33-year-old McCoy is in the news today because he has decided to call it a career.
And to do so, he is signing an honorary deal with the team that drafted him.
The Pennsylvania native did not leave the team on the best terms, but time has passed and he can retire in the city where he became a star.
McCoy’s Fantastic Career
McCoy was a second-round pick of the Eagles in 2009 and was a 1,000-yard rusher just one year later.
He was also a huge threat as a receiver during his prime.
McCoy went over 1,000 yards as a runner in four of his six seasons with the Eagles.
Then came his trade to the Buffalo Bills.
Chip Kelly was given too much power in Philadelphia and proceeded to trade away talent, including McCoy.
The veteran back put up two 1,000-yard seasons in Buffalo as the Eagles went through a minor rebuild en route to cleaning house and eventually winning a Super Bowl.
As for McCoy, he retires with two Super Bowl rings of his own.
First he signed with Kansas City during the 2019 season and won a ring there.
Next up was a limited role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year.
He may not have played much, but he was on the team and that means he was a champion.
McCoy now rides off into the sunset as a two-time champion, two-time First-team All-Pro, and a six-time Pro Bowler.
He also ranks 22nd all-time in rushing yards with 11,102.
That is not too bad for a guy the Eagles gave up on.
A Fitting End
McCoy is an Eagle through and through when thinking back on his NFL career.
His time in Buffalo was indeed memorable, but retiring with the Eagles is the right move.
A trade out of Philadelphia may have been the best thing for McCoy in the end because he signed a five-year deal upon arrival.
If Kelly was not going to pay him, at least he found the back a team willing to shell out $40 million.
The Bills were not exactly contenders, yet McCoy got paid and owns two Super Bowl rings.
That is quite the career and McCoy will go down as one of the greatest runners of this generation.
