Leicester striker Islam Slimani to have medical at French league leaders Lyon on Tuesday

Leicester City forward Islam Slimani is to undergo a medical at Lyon on Tuesday ahead of completing his transfer.

The 32-year old is out of contract in the summer and Leicester have agreed to let him go now with Slimani out of Brendan Rodgers’ plans.

Slimani will replace Moussa Dembele who is joining Atletico Madrid.

Leicester will explore the idea of bringing in a new forward with Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard one that is high on their list.

Slimani will sign an 18 month contract with the French side should he pass his medical tomorrow.

His last and only appearance for Leicester this season came as a substitute in October’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

He joined Leicester for £28million in 2016 but, despite a promising start, found himself loaned out to Newcastle United, Fenerbahce then Monaco.

Manchester United flirted with the idea of signing him last year while West Brom have shown interest in recent months.

Meanwhile, Leicester defender Filip Benkovic is in talks to join Belgian side Leuven on loan.

Midfielder Hamza Choudhury is wanted by West Brom but Leicester want a loan fee with an option for the 23-year-old to move permanently which is making it difficult for the Hawthorns club to finance.
