Leicester midfielder James Maddison has been ruled out of his side’s game at home to Wolves due to illness.

The absence of one of their key stars is a significant blow for Leicester as they look for what could be a crucial victory in their bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Maddison is unavailable because of illness, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Wilfred Ndidi are on the bench at the King Power Stadium.

Commenting on his absence, Maddison wrote on Instagram: ‘Sickness bug overnight. Devastated to miss today’s big game! Come on lads we’ve got this.’

Leicester named an attack-minded lineup, with Jamie Vardy, Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho all starting. There was also a start for midfielder Boubakary Soumare.

The Foxes were beaten 3-1 by Manchester City in Smith’s first game in charge and went into the clash against Wolves off the back of four consecutive league defeats.

Although Leicester have struggled this season, Maddison has still made a significant impact – he has scored nine goals and provided six assists in 24 Premier League appearances.

England international Maddison has also captained Leicester at times this season.

Leicester are also without a host of other players, with Jonny Evans ill, while James Justin, Ricardo Pereira, Harvey Barnes and Jannik Vestergaard are also sidelined.
