Leicester City playmaker James Maddison was full of praise for one Manchester United star after their FA Cup semi-final victory over Brighton on penalties – claiming they are ‘one of the best in the world’ when it comes to defending one-vs-one.

Erik ten Hag’s men are through to the final against Manchester City after edging through 7-6 in the shootout against the Seagulls.

United – still reeling from their dismal 3-0 loss to Sevilla last week – weren’t at their best but still managed to stay rigid and shut out Brighton, who were dangerous on the day and crafted a number of chances.

Central to that was Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who impressed with his solid display against Kaoru Mitoma and earned huge praise from Maddison.

The 26-year-old was so impressed by the right-back that he took to Twitter to hail his performance, saying many players ‘run out of ideas’ when going at him one vs one.

‘[Aaron Wan Bissaka] is ridiculously good at one-v-one defending,’ he wrote.

‘Probably the best in the world bar none. So many wingers run out of ideas when playing directly against him.’

It’s not the first time Wan-Bissaka’s ability in one-vs-one situations has been lauded, with Jamie Carragher praising him in 2020 after getting the better of Raheem Sterling during the Manchester Derby.

‘It’s almost become a massive rivalry this,’ the former Liverpool defender said.

‘Yes it’s the two Manchester clubs, but it’s [also] Raheem Sterling against Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

‘Sterling is one of the best three or four wide players in the world but Wan-Bissaka’s saying: “Come on, you’re not going to get past me”.

‘I actually think Wan-Bissaka is the best one-on-one defender for a full-back in the world. I don’t think anyone would get the better of him.’

United edged through on penalties to set up an epic clash against Man City and manager Ten Hag assured fans they would give everything against Pep Guardiola’s men in a bid to bring home a second trophy.

‘I understand the feeling from the Manchester United fans about this game,’ said the Dutchman.

‘We will do everything we can to give them that (victory over City) and the second trophy of the season.

‘I will give everything I have, the players will give everything they have and the staff will give everything they have to get it done.

‘We can do it – but it’s not an easy job because they have a great team.’
