Leicester face Napoli in tricky Europa League draw while West Ham are given a favourable group

Leicester have been given a tricky draw in the Europa League group stage with the Foxes set to play Serie A club Napoli.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will still feel confident of progressing from Group C, with Russian Premier League runners-up Spartak Moscow and Polish champions Legia Warsaw their other two opponents.

West Ham boss David Moyes will also no doubt be happy with his team’s draw, with the Hammers in Group H with Dinamo Zagreb, Genk and Rapid Vienna.

Rangers and Celtic, who both had to qualify for the group stage after being eliminated from the early stage of the Champions League also learned their fate.

Steven Gerrard’s side have been placed in Group A, which contains Lyon, Sparta Prague and Brondby.

The Gers were beaten in the round of 16 by Slavia Prague last season and will be hopefuly of reaching the knockout stages once again.

The Hoops exited at the group stage of last season’s competition. After their intial disappointment in the Champions League, the club have put together some good form under new boss Ange Postecoglou.

This season’s competiton of the Europa League features just 32 teams in the group stage, rather than the usual 48. This is because of the new UEFA Conference League, which Tottenham will play in after progressing from their qualifier on Thursday.

Eight clubs eliminated from the Champions League group stage will then drop into the knockouts of the Europa League, leaving 32 in total.

Leicester made it to the first knockout stage last season but were beaten by Slavia Prague – who went on to defeat Rangers before they were then beaten by Arsenal.

Villarreal were last season’s champions after beating Manchester United on penalties and their striker Gerard Moreno was awarded Europa League player of the season ahead of the draw ceremony.

Moreno pipped United’s Edinson Cavani and Bruno Fernandes, who were both influential on the Red Devils’ run to the final.
