Leicester have confirmed the signing of striker Stephy Mavididi on a five-year deal from French club Montpellier.

The 25-year-old, who has joined the Foxes for an undisclosed fee, came through the Arsenal youth system and has previously played on loan at Charlton and Preston.

Mavididi, who was born in Derby, told Leicester’s official website: ‘I’m honestly happy and delighted to be here.

‘Speaking to the manager and some of the staff here, it was a no-brainer for me. It was one that was in the pipeline for a while and myself and my family are just happy that it is over the line now.

‘Obviously the size and history of the club speaks for itself. The training ground, the stadium. Personally, I wanted to come back to England, I felt like it was time to come home and continue my football here.’

After eight years at the Emirates, Mavididi moved to Juventus in 2018 – where he became the first English player to appear for the club since David Platt in 1992.

However, that proved to be his only appearance for the Turin side and he was soon loaned out to Dijon.

After an impressive loan spell in Ligue 1, Mavididi signed for Montpellier and has scored 21 goals in 96 games for the club.

In April, his appearance tally for Montpellier broke Chris Waddle’s record for the most games played in France’s top tier by an English player.
