Can the Spurs run the table in Vegas? Watch and find out

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

It’s come to this: the Spurs, winners of three straight games have a shot of making the Las Vegas Summer League playoffs tonight if they win and a few other things go their way. There are 5 remaining undefeated teams in Las Vegas, and the Spurs are one of them. The Grizzlies and Clippers won last night and have 4-0 records. The Spurs will have a 4-0 record if they beat the Sixers tonight, but they have the worst point differential of any of the unbeaten teams, so that would need some additional help. If they win and either one of the Heat or Warriors lose tonight, then they’re in. They could possibly make it if both of those teams win, but only by beating the Sixers by a huge margin, maybe in the 30-40 point range.

It’s kind of crazy that the team that stumbled to a 1-2 record in the California Classic league and lost their best player in the first game in Vegas even has a shot at getting to the playoffs, even though it’s a slim one. It’s a credit to how well they’ve been coached by Kenny Trevino, and how hard a lot of guys have played. Jamaree Bouyea has shone in every game in Vegas and other guys have stepped up at key times to propel the Silver and Black to victory. Harrison Ingram has been on an upward trajectory, and guys like Riley Minix and Donovan Williams have moments of brilliance.

Even if the Summer Spurs can’t pull out a win tonight, it’s been a successful trip for San Antonio. They will play again on Sunday, either in a consolation (practice) game or in one of the Summer League semifinals. The NBA should release that schedule shortly after the Warriors game concludes, which will set the playoff teams.

Game Prediction:

The Spurs will try to run up the score on the Sixers late in order to get a shot at the playoffs, which will make the Sixers players and coaches sad.

One final word:

Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
