King of Props: Emergence of Clemson’s next great wideout

With the season debut of Monday Night Football still a week away, the college game remains on center stage as Labor Day comes to a close. ACC foes Clemson and Georgia Tech clash in Atlanta, and more offense than was seen in last year’s 14-8 win by the Tigers is almost assured. One of the primary playmakers expected to be on display merits strong prop consideration:

The bet: Over 50½ receiving yards for Clemson wide receiver Joseph Ngata (DraftKings)

In his first year as Clemson’s starting quarterback, DJ Uiagalelei struggled to fill the formidable cleats of Trevor Lawrence, completing just 56% of his passes. But he’s poised to take a few strides forward this season, and his leading returning receiver is Ngata, who has been drawing rave reviews. “He killed it this summer,” said Uiagalelei of the senior wideout, echoing sentiments expressed by coach Dabo Swinney.

Ngata has shown flashes in the past, opening the 2021 campaign with 6 catches for 110 yards against eventual-champion Georgia and averaging 19 yards per reception for the season. However, he has always played in the shadow of other receivers — Tee Higgins, Amari Rodgers, Justyn Ross — and injuries have plagued him. Now fully healthy and the clear top option, Ngata should be able to exploit a reconfigured Georgia Tech secondary.
