Keane accuses Manchester City striker Aguero of ‘piling on the pounds’ while recovering from injury

Roy Keane has slammed Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero for returning from injury ‘looking really heavy’.

The 32-year-old Argentine suffered a hamstring injury in his third appearance on his return from a knee injury he suffered in June, which ruled him out of the Premier League run-in and resumption of the Champions League knockout stage.

The Blues have been operating without a specialist centre forward in recent weeks after Aguero and Gabriel Jesus were ruled out by injury.

Jesus scored on his return to starting line-up against Liverpool on Sunday but Aguero was not risked in the 1-1 draw.

Manchester United legend Keane had little sympathy for Aguero.

He told Sky Sports: ‘My issue with Aguero when he came back was he looked overweight.

‘God knows what size shorts he was wearing. He did look really heavy

‘Sometimes you can be out injured and hit the ground running

‘This idea that players need two or three months to get up to speed. I was worried when he came back he looked really, really heavy.’

Former City defender Micah Richards said Aguero may have rushed back before he was fully fit in a bid to help out the team.

Keane added: ‘It’s difficult to get up to speed, but don’t be piling on the pounds.’
