Kawhi’s new kicks launched, but not in San Antonio
The limited editions sold out in a heartbeat and weren’t even available in the heart of Leonard’s fanbase.
Well, with all the speculation as to whether Kawhi Leonard will be in San Antonio or elsewhere next season, his shoes have now jumped into the debate. On Saturday, the “Pass the Torch” Air Jordan 1 were released throughout the U.S. in a limited edition — but not in the town where he is currently on the roster. Per Sole Collector:
This weekend, Nike is dropping the latest installment of its ”Art of a Champion” collection, an Air Jordan 1 inspired by San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard. The colorway—officially dubbed the “Pass the Torch”—pays homage to Leonard’s MVP performance in the 2014 NBA Finals.
The chrome-covered Air Jordan 1 matches perfectly with the Spurs uniforms and even sports Leonard’s hand logo on the left tongue.
According to Foot Locker’s Launch Locator, this pair is going to be a tough one to acquire, with only a small amount of its U.S. locations receiving the pair. Interestingly enough, the pair will not even be released in San Antonio, but will make its way to two other Texas locations in Dallas and Arlington. Check out the availability at specific stores using the Foot Locker launch locator.
Just for laughs, I called the Foot Locker in Beverly Hills. There was a lottery for the noteworthy pairs, and for the 6 that were unclaimed after the store opened, there was a line. The sales clerk who took my call chuckled politely at my request, as if to insinuate that I had no clue.
The originally priced $145, the shoes are now going for $540- $749.95 online.
