Justin Fields the betting favorite to be No. 3 pick in NFL Draft

Benjamin Allbright of Colorado’s KOA NewsRadio attracted attention when he tweeted on Thursday there is a “lot of buzz” connecting the San Francisco 49ers, holders of the third pick of the upcoming NFL Draft, with former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields.

Allbright isn’t the only person linking those two together.

As of early Thursday evening, BetOnline.ag listed Fields as the overwhelming favorite to be the draft’s third selection at -180. Alabama Crimson Tide signal-caller Mac Jones is at +120, Trey Lance of the North Dakota State Bison is +500 and BYU Cougars QB Zach Wilson could be worth a flier at +2500 even though most assume the New York Jets won’t let him get past the second pick.

Four different CBS Sports analysts currently predict the Jets will draft Wilson. It’s presumed the Jacksonville Jaguars will grab Clemson Tigers superstar Trevor Lawrence with the first pick.

In his latest mock draft updated on Tuesday, Walter Cherepinsky of Walter Football forecasted the 49ers will select Fields. “Justin Fields is vastly superior to Trey Lance, but there’s lots of speculation about Lance being the choice,” Cherepinsky explained. He continued: “Drawing comparisons to Deshaun Watson, Fields should be the second or fourth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.”
