Jurgen Klopp explains why Sadio Mane refused to shake his hand after Liverpool win over Man United

Liverpool down Man United

Liverpool and Manchester United went head-to-head on Thursday evening.

The tie was of little importance to United, who have nothing left to play for in the league this term.

Liverpool, on the other hand, needed all three points to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

And, when all was said and done at Old Trafford, Jurgen Klopp and co. would indeed pick up a big win.

Bruno Fernandes actually fired the hosts into the lead after 10 minutes.

However, Diogo Jota then levelled things up after 34 minutes, before a Roberto Firmino brace either side of the break made it 3-1.

United did pull one back with just over 20 minutes to play, but a Liverpool counter finished by Mohamed Salah 90 minutes in put the result beyond doubt.

Klopp discusses Mane not shaking his hand

Following the tie, you would have assumed all involved at Liverpool were in a great mood after getting one over on their rivals and moving up to 5th.

However, one player clearly not happy was Sadio Mane, who refused to shake Klopp’s hand post-match:

Klopp would go on to discuss the incident in his post-match press conference, claiming it was caused by him not explaining properly why he opted to bring in Jota for Mane:

“We made a decision in training and changed Diogo for Sadio. We usually explain it but I didn’t do that properly or whatever. That is all.”
