Jurgen Klopp expects Man City to hold their nerve and win the Premier League

Jurgen Klopp concedes that his Liverpool side are UNLIKELY to win the Premier League this season despite Man City’s draw at West Ham… as he admits ‘I don’t expect them to drop points’ against Aston Villa on the final day

  • Man City were only able to pick up a point against West Ham on Sunday
  • Liverpool will move to within a point of Man City if they beat Southampton
  • This would set up a mouthwatering last day, with both teams battling for the title
  • However, Jurgen Klopp expects City to hold their nerve and win their final game

Jurgen Klopp has played down Liverpool‘s title chances, despite watching Manchester City drop points against West Ham on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s side were held to a 2-2 draw by David Moyes’s men at the London Stadium, and the Reds will have the chance to cut City’s lead at the top to just a single point if they beat Southampton on Tuesday.

However, with City at home to Aston Villa in their final match, Klopp – whose side host Wolves on the last day – is not expecting Pep Guardiola’s side to slip up again.

‘Is there a big chance? I wouldn’t say so,’ Klopp responded when asked in his pre-match press conference about his side’s chances of overhauling the defending champions.

‘I don’t know the last time City dropped points two games in a row and Villa have to play midweek. I don’t expect City to drop points there.’

City have not dropped points in consecutive league games since December 2020, when they had to settle for successive draws against Manchester United and West Brom.

Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties in the FA Cup final on Saturday to pick up their second domestic trophy of the season, keeping their quadruple hopes alive in the process.

Their victory came at a cost, though, as Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk were both forced off injured.

The duo are doubtful for the trip to St Mary’s, and Klopp has confirmed that the club are assessing the fitness of the key pair.

He has also hinted that he could have to rotate his squad against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side, having seen his team play 120 minutes in the afternoon sun at Wembley.

‘The process is not finished. We have a lot of decisions,’ Klopp added.
