John Jay High School student dead after stabbing at nearby restaurant
The suspect, believed to be another student, has not been caught.
San Antonio police say a student from John Jay High School has died from a stab wound inflicted at a restaurant near the school Tuesday, April 4. The 18-year-old male student was initially taken to University Hospital in critical condition after an altercation at the Fiesta De Jalisco at 7712 Marbach Road, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Police told the Express-News the student was confronted by another teen at the restaurant around 2 p.m. Tuesday after he placed his order and sat down. A second teen, believed to be a student, placed an order and then confronted the first student and started arguing. The two exited through the back of the restaurant where a fight between them broke out.
“The suspect immediately turned around pulling out a knife stabbing the victim [sic]. The suspect then fled the scene in an unknown direction,” a SAPD statement given to MySA reads.
Stabbed in the right side of their torso, the first student grabbed his backpack and tried to flee before collapsing not far from the scene. The student that allegedly stabbed the other also ran away from the back of restaurant, but had not been found as of Wednesday morning, April 5. SAPD notes that the investigation remains ongoing.
The high school and the John Jay Science and Engineering Academy were placed under a lock down Tuesday due to the stabbing.
Two other Northside ISD schools, Sotomayor High School and Bernal Middle School, were also in the news this week after the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest related to bomb threats. Deputies arrested a sixth-grade girl and charged her with a third-degree felony over her alleged bomb threat.
