The New York Jets have acquired Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The Jaguars will receive a sixth-round pick in return that could become a fifth, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter

The trade comes just hours after New York Jets announced rookie running back Breece Hall will be sidelined for the rest of the season with an ACL tear.

Robinson fell out of favor in Jacksonville after starting the season off as the team’s lead ball-carrier. Over the last four weeks, Robinson either had the same number of carries or fewer than teammate and 2021 first-round selection Travis Etienne. This came to a head in Week 7, where Robinson failed to touch the ball once in Jacksonville’s loss to the New York Giants.

Robinson was an undrafted free agent in 2020, setting the record for most rushing yards by a UDFA in NFL history. He followed that up in 2021 by finishing sixth in rushing DVOA and seventh in rushing DYAR among running backs. Robinson joins a Jets offense who ranks 11th in offensive rushing DVOA.
