Jerry Jones Speaks on Job Status of Mike McCarthy

With all of the rumors regarding Sean Payton potentially coming to Dallas, Jerry Jones has put those to bed — at least for now.

“No, no, no. Not at all.”

On the other hand, it has to be in the back of Jones’ mind after McCarthy lost another playoff game with such a talented roster, and guys like Sean Payton don’t come around very often.

This is the second straight year the Cowboys got eliminated in the playoffs by the 49ers, and this time it was with Brock Purdy, a rookie quarterback, on the other sideline.

McCarthy’s playoff record in Dallas now moves to 1-2, and the patience of Jerry Jones might not last much longer. The final play of the game didn’t do McCarthy any favors, either.

This year was different, and the Cowboys played in San Francisco against one of the top defenses in the NFL. Last postseason, the Cowboys saw their season end in Texas, which was an uneasy sight for everybody in the Cowboys organization.

Things could definitely change over the next few weeks, especially with Sean Payton’s not-so-secret desire to coach the Cowboys, but Jerry Joes admits McCarthy’s job is safe — for now.

The 49ers will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC title game, and the Cowboys will have to watch from home once again, thinking about what could have been.
