Jerry Jones: ‘Not legitimate’ to say I’m infatuated with Kyle Pitts

Jerry Jones has denied the rumor that he is “infatuated” with Kyle Pitts, saying that it misrepresented how he feels about drafting the tight end.

Pitts is among the best prospects in the entire draft and is not expected to be available when the Cowboys pick at 10. So to acquire Pitts, the team would likely need to trade up to pick him, which is something Jones does not sound comfortable doing.

“It’s a distortion for this draft and where we are there,” Jones said during a press conference. “It implies something that’s just not the case. We’re not going to go in there and spend inordinate value to maneuver up there so we can get Pitts.”

In fact, it sounds like Jones may not be interested in grabbing an offensive player at all, as he said that the Cowboys appear to be in prime position to grab an elite player on defense.

“(We got a) good chance to have a top defensive player — the top, one of top — be there at 10,” he said.

This draft does appear to be loaded with offensive players up top, and while the Cowboys may not actually end up being the first team to pick a defensive player, they should have no problem being one of the teams to do so.
