Jarell Quansah hoping loan experience can lead to Liverpool opportunities

Jarell Quansah has returned to Liverpool with confidence and vital experience in senior football following his loan spell last season.

The centre-half spent the second half of 2022-23 with League One side Bristol Rovers and earned 16 appearances, all but one of which were starts.

He’s now part of Jürgen Klopp’s 32-man squad in Germany for the Reds’ pre-season training camp and hoping his recent development can catch the eye of the coaching staff.

Asked what he took from his temporary stint away, the 20-year-old told Liverpoolfc.com: “Just the want to win at all costs.

“And there’s players with different experiences and how they use their bodies against yours. Just getting used to the physicality side of it really.

“It was valuable experience that I needed. I learnt so much and I can just tell from the performances I had I’ve got so much to learn and obviously I’ve sort of shown that I can hold my own as well. It was good.

“Obviously I’ve had a taste of it, so it’d be good to impress out here and do the best I can.”

Exposed to the habits of Virgil van Dijk and Liverpool’s other established defenders on a daily basis while on this trip, Quansah is absorbing every crumb of knowledge possible in his bid to continue growing as a player.

“He’s the best centre-back at the minute, in my opinion, and all of them are just role models for me,” the England youth international continued.

“Any way I watch what they’re doing and take any information that I need, it’s always going to be helpful in the long run.

“It’s the best feeling ever at the minute, just getting to know everyone, getting used to the level of training. Obviously it’s pre-season, so [I’m] getting fit as well.”

Quansah is one of a handful of youngsters from the Kirkby Academy in the state of Baden-Württemberg for preparations ahead of 2023-24.

A captain of Liverpool youth sides and having been away with the senior squad before, he’s on hand to provide guidance and support to his younger peers.

Quansah finished: “Obviously there’s a couple of young lads with us as well, so it’s good to help them with the experience as well.

“I can share some thoughts that I’ve had in previous experiences. It’s always helpful when people look up to you and you can try to set the example yourself.”
