Leicester playmaker James Maddison remains a ‘priority target’ for Tottenham as they look to rebuild ahead of next season.
The 26-year-old scored 10 Premier League goals for the Foxes last year but could not keep them in the top flight as they were relegated on the final day.
He has just one year remaining on his contract, and Leicester will be keen to cash in on one of their most valuable assets.
Newcastle were also in the hunt for Maddison, but Spurs appear favourites to land his signature with the Magpies more focused on AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs will ‘push for the England international next week’, with new manager Ange Postecoglou seeing him as a priority.

The North London club are also keen on Leicester’s Harvey Barnes, although they may have to wait until later in the transfer window to bring him in amid interest from West Ham and Arsenal.
Mail Sport columnist Simon Jordan felt Maddison would be a good fit for Spurs, as he said: ‘I think he is a decent player, a good player. I don’t think he is the player people quite think he is.
‘But I have sat across from Danny [Murphy] and Graeme Souness, who have both been top midfielders, and they think he is top-drawer’
‘If [Spurs and Newcastle do want Maddison], then you’ve got two managers [Postecoglou and Howe] that I think are good managers to play for.
‘One has got a toxic fanbase and needs a rebuild, while the other is in really good nick. I think either one of those clubs is a really good fit for James, and I think Tottenham is where he lands.’
Meanwhile, Spurs may be ready to cut ties with midfielder Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg.

Postecoglou is happy to move him on while 27-year-old Hojbjerg is attracting interest from Premier League and Bundesliga clubs, including Bayern Munich.
The North London side have also reached an agreement to sign Empoli keeper Guglielmo Vicario for £17.2 million.
They had initially eyed Brentford’s David Raya as a long-term replacement for the ageing Hugo Lloris, but were put off by his £40m pricetag.
