Jalen Ramsey named a potential New York Giants trade fit

Looking to build off of a strong 2022 campaign, the New York Giants head into the offseason with plans to retool their roster. With $44 million to spend in free agency, they could address several major needs, including the cornerback position.

The Giants have a proven starter in Adoree’ Jackson, but there is a lack of depth at the position. In order to address this, NFL Network’s Adam Schein has named the team as a potential trade fit for Los Angeles Rams star cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

“According to Over The Cap, the Giants currently have the fourth-most cap space in the NFL at just under $47 million. A portion of that grand sum could go to QB Daniel Jones and RB Saquon Barkley, though I wouldn’t overpay for either” wrote Schein

“I would go after Ramsey, a stud cover man who’d give the G-Men swagger. His play and attitude would go over brilliantly in New York. And I think the versatile playmaker would flourish under aggressive defensive coordinator Wink Martindale.”

The Giants have several decisions to make in the coming weeks, including what they will do with both Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley. But according to Schien, the team should focus on bringing in a proven force in Ramsey.

While Ramsey would bring elite talent to the Giants secondary, he would also come with a $17 million base salary for the 2023 season according to Spotrac. He is also under contract until 2025, which could make him difficult to trade for.

Ramsey is coming off of yet another Pro Bowl campaign in 2022. In total, he recorded 88 total tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, four interceptions, and 18 defended passes.

For a team that is still looking to build its roster, sending a major trade package to the Rams could be something that the Giants are not interested in. But if this Joe Schoen-led front office is looking to make a splash, this could be the type of move that would shake up this roster.

A secondary led by Ramsey, Jackson, and Xavier McKinney would have elite potential. Paired alongside the defensive front of Dexter Lawrence, Leonard Williams, and Kayvon Thibodeaux, this could become one of the best units in the NFL.
