These teams are set to battle this weekend for a spot in the Superbowl. Both teams and quarterbacks have completely different journeys here. Yet this isn’t the first time these young gunslingers have faced each other as Jalen Hurts vs Brock Purdy happened back in 2019.

Their Last Meeting

Before the NFL these two had a shootout of a game back in 2019. Hurts was Oklahoma’s starter and Purdy was Iowa States. Combined they threw for 11 touchdowns as Hurts and company barely held off Iowa States come from behind. The score ending at 42-41 as Purdy couldn’t connect with his receiver on a two point conversion for the win in the last seconds.

Even though Purdy and his Cyclones lost he definitely wasn’t at fault. He threw for over 300 yards and six touchdowns. While Hurts also balled with over 300 yards and five touchdowns. This time around I don’t expect a high score shootout, but both players has the potential to make it one. The defenses are just so good in this game a shootout is unlikely.

Different Paths

That’s about all their paths have in common as Hurts has been in the NFL for a couple years now while this is Purdys rookie season. Also Hurts was a second round pick and Purdy is “Mr Irrelevant” being picked last in 2022. Also the Eagles started the season with Hurts under center. The 49ers had Purdy third on their depth chart and injuries to both quarterbacks before him gave the rookie his opportunity. Both took advantage of their opportunities and showed they belong on the field.

Same Destination

Far different paths have brought these two to the same stadium once again. It’ll be Jalen Hurts vs Brock Purdy part two. If both play evenly as before it’ll take someone else to step up and decide the game. We could very well witness game of the year.
