Jadon Sancho ‘walks into’ Man United, Man City and Liverpool sides, says Owen Hargreaves

Jadon Sancho will still have his suitors like Manchester United in the transfer window despite the collapse of the market, according to Owen Hargreaves.

The Borussia Dortmund winger has been a long-term target for the Old Trafford side and has been heavily linked with a £100million move in the summer, while also being coveted by the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool in England.

United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has previously warned that big-money transfers ‘ignore the realities that face the sport’ due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And it is expected that fees will drop across the world due to the brewing financial crash caused by the crisis, leaving little market for the England international, who Dortmund will not be forced to sell.

But Hargreaves believes the 20-year-old is so good he will still attract those looking to add quality when the season ends.

BT Sport pundit Hargreaves said: ‘I think the people that will have the money, they will always be in a better position than others. I think the teams lower down won’t be in that position.

HARGREAVES WARNS AGAINST INJURIES ON BUNDESLIGA RETURN

‘I think you’ll see more of that – soft-tissue injuries, I think, will be the biggest issue,’ he said.

‘Physically, the boys are fit, but the intensity will be the biggest thing [in terms of] getting used to.

‘I think you’ll probably see the games played at not quite as high intensity, to start with, while everybody’s still finding their feet and adjusting.’

‘The Bundesliga lower down has stabilised a lot in terms of spending and is a lot more sensible than some of the teams we see in some of the other (leagues).

‘I think Jadon is a special case because whoever gets him… the fees are going to be significant but that is a player for potentially a decade. So he walks into any of our great teams, our Man Citys, our Liverpools, even a Barcelona or a Real Madrid if he fancies it. His level is that good.

‘I think you’ll see fees come down for sure. The amount of friends I have that run businesses that have gone under… it’s going to impact football teams as well but I think the big ones, the Bayern Munichs and the Man Uniteds, they are still going to have money to do what they want to do.

‘Maybe not in terms of quantity, but in terms of quality.’

The Bundesliga returns this weekend as the first major European league to resume following the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

And for Hargreaves, while he anticipates Sancho will be pursued relentlessly by Premier League sides, he believes the Bundesliga represents a more exciting league.

‘I think the great thing about the Bundesliga – I know Bayern Munich are on a different level to everyone – but because of the change of manager with Niko Kovac at the start of the season, the gap isn’t as big,’ he said.
