Ibrahima Konate to Liverpool expected to be completed in next 48 hours/ Fabinho contract update

A fresh update on Liverpool’s reported pursuit of Ibrahima Konate has emerged on Friday morning.

Konate linked with Liverpool

Ibrahima Konate joined RB Leipzig on a free transfer in the summer of 2017, from French outfit, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.

And the 22-year-old has since gone on to garner 95 appearances for Die Roten Bullen, including 21 this past season.

Konate is fast, powerful and good with the ball at his feet. The France under-21 international’s contract was also rumoured to contain a release clause worth just €40m this summer, a sum which – given his age, experience and ability – would represent a real bargain in the modern market.

In turn, it didn’t come as too much of a surprise to see a top European club express an interest in the stopper.

The highly reliable David Ornstein reported at the end of March that Liverpool were working to finalise a deal for the Leipzig standout. Ornstein added that a deal was not done, but significant progress had been made.

Hope of a potential swoop from Liverpool for Konate did look to have died down somewhat following the initial news breaking back in March.

Now, though, it does appear as though a transfer is close to being completed.

Paul Joyce of The Times wrote that Liverpool expects to complete the transfer of Konate in the next 48 hours, with agreements said to be in place with both the player on personal terms and also RB Leipzig.

It is added that Konate’s release clause value is £36m.

Fabrizio Romano also expects Konate’s Anfield switch to be made official soon, with the transfer expert also providing an update on Fabinho’s contract situation, with it claimed Liverpool are progressing in negotiations over a deal for the Brazilian:
