Horizon Worlds Spotlight: Flutt3r

Welcome back to our weekly spotlight on the people building for Horizon Worlds and on their amazing creations.

Last week, we took a deep dive into the Colorectal Cancer Alliance’s Blue Hope World, which raises awareness about the risks of colorectal cancer, and how to protect against them. This week, we hear from Flutt3r about what inspired them to create a series of worlds, including Garden Gate Meditation, Flutterby’s Garden, and The Spirit Within Meditation Retreat, that are meant to be both relaxing and a safe space for anyone who needs one.

What’s your background, and what got you interested in VR?

Because of my love of computers and technology, I understood how VR worked, and it was exciting because it gave me a way to feel less isolated. That’s something I’ve long struggled with due to my physical disabilities and health issues.

What do you draw upon for inspiration when building in Horizon Worlds?

When I start creating a new world, I focus on what I love about places I’ve visited in real life or even just the spaces I see in my dreams. I use a combination of light, animation, sound, and art to make my worlds feel as realistic as possible.

What do you want people to take away from their experience with your worlds?

I want them to leave feeling calm and supported. I want them to know they have a safe space to come back to and a person to reach out to if they want.

Are you a programmer or creator in your day job, or do you see this as a hobby?

Creating for Horizon Worlds is not my job, but it’s much more than a hobby. The people there have really become my family.

Because of my technical and artistic background, I can teach people how to build and script, and I can also build community and lead meditations.

I think anyone can learn to build in Horizon Worlds, and I want people to know that if they’re worried about learning how to do it, there are many of us who love to teach others.

Do you collaborate with others, and if so, what’s that experience like for you?

I have in the past, and now I prefer to focus my time with others on teaching them about Horizon Worlds. I love helping people realize their own potential and then seeing how they grow. For me, collaboration is about building solid foundations in all aspects of our community.

What’s your best advice for getting started on building worlds for Horizon Worlds?

Go to events and talk to world builders. There’s so many of us who are eager to help others who actively want to learn.

What do you think the ultimate potential is for Horizon Worlds?

I’d love nothing more than to be able to earn and spend money in Horizon Worlds. If I could earn money, I could hire someone to help me run events, and focus my time on working with other people instead of worrying about how to pay my bills.

And if I could buy items and services in Horizon Worlds, I could help others with their businesses. So I’m really hoping there will eventually be a self-contained economic system.

How do you think VR fits into the future vision of the metaverse?

In the future, VR will be a place you can go for experiences and to build our dreams. It could be great for creating 3D models of things, like clothing, that we want to make in real life.

What’s your favorite VR experience?

I can sum up what I love about VR in one word that covers building, scripting, community building, and life: ADVENTURE!
