Here are CDC’s requirements coronavirus patients must meet before leaving quarantine

Updated 5:41 pm CDT, Tuesday, March 17, 2020

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated the requirements for those under quarantine for the coronavirus.

Previously, those in quarantine had to go 48 hours without a fever and without using fever-reducing medication. Now, patients have to go fever-free for 72 hours without fever-reducing medication. This applies to those currently under quarantine and those who may be quarantined in the future.

In addition, before leaving isolation, a patient’s other symptoms — including shortness of breath or a cough — must have improved and at least seven days must have passed from when the symptoms first appeared.

If patients have been tested positive for coronavirus, the same requirements apply and patients must have two consecutive negative tests 24 hours apart.

The decision to stop self-quarantine should always be made with your healthcare provider as well as with the state and local health departments, the CDC said.
