Hector Bellerin confirms he ‘left Arsenal to win trophies’ with Betis: ‘I’m not here for a holiday’
On-loan Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has, on Monday evening, provided an insight into his ambitions with Real Betis.
La Liga return
The name of Spanish full-back Bellerin of course took centre stage in the media chatter on the red half of North London throughout the recently-closed summer transfer window.
This came with the 26-year-old, on the back of another difficult campaign at the Emirates, having been hotly tipped for an exit.
Mikel Arteta was long known to have been on the lookout for reinforcements to the right side of his backline, with such an addition, in the end, having ultimately been forthcoming in the form of Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu.
This, in turn, opened the door for Bellerin to finally move on, albeit only on a temporary basis.
The Barcelona youth product secured a return to his home country, to line out with Real Betis in La Liga for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.
‘Not here for a holiday’
And, as outlined above, on Monday evening, Bellerin has opened up on his ambitions for his season-long stint in Andalusia.
Speaking ahead of Betis’ Europa League meeting with Celtic this coming Thursday, the on-loan Arsenal man was drawn on the Scottish giants, and opened by explaining:
‘To play against Celtic will be special because they’re such a big club with a big history.’
‘Celtic will be a tough rival but I’m optimistic. At Betis, we’re obliged to get the three points.’
‘We have already watched the derby against Rangers and that result puts pressure on Celtic.’
Bellerin wasn’t finished there, though, and went on to confirm that he ‘left Arsenal to win things’ in the colours of Betis, with Celtic simply the first obstacle en route to Europa League glory:
‘If we can dominate the ball against them, we can get the win we need. I’ve left Arsenal to win things with Real Betis. I’m not here for a holiday.’
