Heat advisory extended as San Antonio-area temperatures to remain in triple digits Monday

San Antonio will see no relief from the heat on Monday as the National Weather Service extended a heat advisory into a fourth day predicting area temperatures will again reach 100.

The San Antonio area has been under a heat advisory since Friday and meteorologists say the local heat index may again reach 110 degrees this afternoon and so extended the advisory. The high on Saturday was 102 and with a high of 101 on Sunday, according to weather data. Data also shows the heat index hit 112 over the weekend.

Meteorologists say the high temperatures are the result of a high pressure ridge mixed with a surge of high humidity from the Gulf of Mexico.

While an official advisory hasn’t been issued yet, the NWS predicts Tuesday will see similar temperatures and believe an extension is likely. Tuesday is predicted to have a high of 101 with a heat index of up to 110.

Wednesday may break the streak and be just cool enough not to trigger an advisory, however the heat index is still anticipated to reach 108.

Some relief may come by the end of the week with possible precipitation Wednesday through the weekend that may bring temperatures down to the mid-90s, meteorologists say.
