Harry Hall, Adam Schenk lead, Viktor Hovland and Justin Suh make a move and more from Saturday at the Charles Schwab Challenge

Harry Hall posted a third-round 2-over 72, but he still holds a share of the 54-hole lead at the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge.

The Englishman made back-to-back double bogeys on Nos. 6 and 7 and it looked like he was going to nosedive down the leaderboard. However, he bounced back nicely once he made the turn, making birdies on Nos. 12 and 17 to sign for a 72.

Atop the board with Hall is Adam Schenk, who got around Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, with a 3-under 67 on Saturday. Schenk birdied his first two holes of the day before giving one back on No. 4, his lone bogey of the day. After making the turn with a 1-under 34, Schenk made birdie at the par-5 11th and closed out his day with another circle at the last.

Hall, who has two top-10 finishes this season, is looking for his first win on the PGA Tour. Schenk, who missed three straight cuts before this week, is also searching for his first victory.

If you missed any of Saturday’s action, no worries, we have you covered. Here’s everything you need to know from the third round of the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Harry Hall was 12 under through 36 holes, and Viktor Hovland and Justin Suh teed off Saturday 11 and 10 back, respectively.

But thanks to 4-under 66s — and a 2-over round from the Englishman — Hovland and Suh are within striking distance heading into Sunday.

The Norwegian’s opening nine was a bit on the boring side, as two birdies and a bogey had Hovland making the turn with a 1-under 34. However, he caught fire on the back, making four birdies in a six-hole stretch before a bogey at No. 17 stalled his momentum. Still, Hovland will tee off late Sunday five shots back of the leaders.

Unlike Hovland, Suh did most of his damage on the front nine, carding birdies on Nos. 1, 2, 6 and 7 to go out in 31. He’d add another circle at the 12th but gave it back on his closing hole, his lone blemish of the day. Suh, who’s four back, is looking for his first win on the PGA Tour.

Hovland’s last win came at the 2021 World Wide Technologies Championship at Mayakoba.

Max Homa’s roller coaster day

Max Homa was a popular pick heading into the week, and early on during his third round, the Cali kid looked like he was going to make a run.

Homa birdied his first two holes to get to 6 under, but the rest of his day was a roller coaster. He’d give the two birdies back on Nos. 6 and 8 but managed to bounce back with another circle at the par-4 ninth. After making the turn, Homa bogeyed No. 12, birdied No. 13, and then bogeyed Nos. 14 and 16. His 1-over 71 has him seven shots out of the lead and he’ll now need something special — and a little help — if he wants to earn his third win of the season.

The No. 7-ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking will not be making the trip to Dublin, Ohio, next week for the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village. Players are allowed to skip one designated event this season.

Shot of the day came from Harris English again

This 40-footer from Harris English on the difficult par-3 16th, at the time, gave him the outright lead. English is 9 under through 54 holes and will tee off Sunday one back of the leaders.
